Tax Calculator

When my wife was returning to work after maternity leave, we were considering her going back part-time. We ended up running a lot of scenarios to understand the effect on net take-home pay of going back for 3 / 4 / 5 days per week, and whether I would adjust my working days also. This required making a big spreadsheet to do all of the calculating. I am hoping this widget can help people in a similar situation.

All numbers are approximate, do not take these as fully accurate. Further more, these numbers make a lot of assumptions about you, namely:

  • You are under 65
  • You are not blind
  • You are national insurance Category A
  • Your student loan, if any, is Plan 1 or Plan 2
  • You have no other miscellaneous deductions
  • Going down to 4 or 3 days per week equates to a simple 20% or 40% reduction in gross income.
